biography

Dakota DeFiore graduated from Millersville University of Pennsylvania in 2012 with a Bachelor of Arts in English, Writing Studies. Dakota pursued a Master of Fine Arts in English and Creative Writing from Mills College (Oakland, California),  finishing the program in 2014.  In 2019, Dakota attended The University of Oklahoma and graduated with her Master's in Education, specializing in Instructional Leadership and Academic Curriculum Development (ILAC). She now works as an English Professor at The College of Southern Nevada, in Las Vegas, NV, teaching composition.

When she is not advocating for hybridity or 21st century instruction, Dakota aims to soften the evident dichotomy between what is considered 'academic' and what is not.  Between them lies an intersection, and she believes this untapped potential engenders a space in conventional academic discourse for a multitude of missing perspectives—there is no need to specify 'scholar' or 'storyteller'. Regardless of title, Dakota believes the world is perceived individually, and her mission is to find a place for Point of View in academia.
